Draw poker is a game where the dealer deals each player a complete five-card hand before starting the first round of betting. On the later rounds, players would then swap or draw cards to replace their first dealt hand.
There are several types of five-card draws that have been created through the years. The "standard five-card draw" poker is the most common and usually players first learn this game before any other. It is usually played by five to eight players present. The game begins by the dealer handing five cards, faced down, one at a time to each of the players. The dealer places what is left of the deck aside and usually protects it by putting a buck on top of it. After all the players have read their cards, the first betting round begins. Then the players would indicate how many of their cards they wish to replace and discards their previous rejected cards. The dealer would then take back the remaining deck, place a burn card on the table and deals each of the players to make each of their hand a complete hand again. After that, another betting round begins.
The showdown begins immediately after the second betting round and player who remains will try to make raises and calls until the player who has the best five-card hand wins the round.
A standard five-card draw poker is rather different from what is seen in tournaments nowadays. It differs in way that poker games nowadays which is usually Texas hold 'em or Omaha hold 'em poker are games that are dealt with community cards in the middle of the table to be shared by all of the players. In draw poker, players rely on their own skill and pure luck to win in each and every hand.
Some would say that five-card draw poker is more difficult than any other poker games. Some players prefer the new poker games like Texas and Omaha hold 'em and some players still like the old standard draw poker. In the end, players would say that it is really just a matter of preference. It would still all be poker.
