Poker: Overcoming Cheating
Cheating in poker games, as well as other gambling games, isn't quite as rampant as they were before. The introduction of complex surveillance equipment, and other cheating "countermeasures" in most casinos have made possible the crackdown and prevention of most cheating activities in casinos and other gambling establishments.
However, despite the installation of all these newfangled surveillance devices in casinos, there are still instances when cheating occurs. Poker games are still inundated with increasingly sophisticated cheaters and con artists who are willing to go through great lengths just to secure a win.
If you are like most poker players who want their games clean and cheating free, then follow these simple steps if you suspect there's a cheater in your poker games.
One easy and extremely effective way to prevent cheating is by simply cutting the deck. If you don't fully trust the dealer or the other players, do it yourself. There's nothing wrong if you request permission to cut the deck since you're only doing it for everyone's best interest, aside from the cheater of course.
If you feel something wrong with the edges of the deck, which could mean someone marked the cards, request for a new deck. If possible, the new deck should be opened from its plastic wrapper in plain sight of the players.
Some gambling establishments can give players a sense that cheating is tolerated to some extent. Usually, these are gambling locales that make money from table fees and such. In this case, it's best to leave the place. Before you do, you might want to inform the casino manager your reason for leaving.
This might -- along with other like complaints -- make that particular house clamp down and take a tougher stance on cheating and other illegal activities happening in their place.
In most casinos, cheating is considered a severe offense and is treated as such. This is one reason why most casinos won't mind spending large amounts of money to prevent cheating. Those caught and identified as cheaters may sometimes serve extended periods behind bars. Also, pictures of known cheaters and con men are posted in front and inside of casinos.
If you suspect someone is cheating at your poker game, immediately make it known to the manager. Surveillance tapes can be reviewed if a cheating incident did occur, and if that's the case, proper measures can be taken.
Playing poker can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. But once someone starts cheating to win games, it could quickly turn into an experience you won't want to get into.
